Technology Friday

Last summer, my brother generously offered me his iPad 1 because he purchased a new iPad 2.  The price was right and I accepted. Over the course of the last year, I’ve become completely addicted to this piece of tech from Apple. On May 17, the built-in battery refused to charge and I promptly brought it to my local Apple store where I was told that it could not be repaired. Incredulous, I decided to prove them wrong since the darned thing was only a year and eight months old– I’ve had goldfish that lived longer.

Returning home, I searched for reviews of companies specializing in repairing iPads. I was happy to find that there were a few, and one in particular, iResQ, caught my attention because of many favorable reports from happy customers.

I telephone their headquarters, located in a town just south of Kansas City, Kansas. Their customer service rep promptly answered the phone and all my questions. She gave me a repair number with shipping instructions. iResQ provides free diagnostics and they ask only that return shipping be paid in advance ($10) via credit card. Since my repair wasn’t an emergency I shipped the device via ground. Total cost both ways, $17. Within a day after they received it they telephoned to say that the docking/charging port needed to be replaced and that it would set me back $75. The following week I had my iPad back safe and sound for under a hundred dollars! Their website is very complete and they’re great about email and telephone communication. I would definitely use their services again.
