Technology Friday

One of many interesting discoveries I made at LegalTech NY 2012 was something I didn’t know I needed until I saw it. Philips has manufactured some pretty cool tech over the years. As a user of Nuance’s Dragon Naturally Speaking, I was impressed to learn that Philips makes several handheld digital dictation recorder models, called DPMs (for Digital Pocket Memos) that integrate with Dragon Naturally speaking.

When you’re away from the office you can still dictate decisions, reports, letters, etc. with a DPM. Once back at your desk, simply dock the DPM with your computer via the USB port. Philips’s software will then automatically save the file and Dragon can then transcribe it. Since the software is integrated with Dragon, it will even work with templates in MS Word and  WordPerfect.

Some of the DPMs have programmable buttons which can also execute macros. The LFH9500 and LFH9600 models have slide switches like traditional dictation handhelds.

Philips also makes apps for the iPhone (LHS7430) and Blackberry (LHS7455). It will work with a Bluetooth headset and can transmit the saved files via wireless (WiFi or cell) connection.

Philips has five models of digital reorders ranging in price from $299 to $499 (street prices are $199 to $449) and the iPhone and Blackberry apps are $129 ($99 street price).
