AnnouncementThis year, we have the extraordinary good fortune to be in one of my favorite cities, Chicago, from September 15-18 for the NAALJ annual meeting and conference. The Illinois chapter has planned an exciting event with many optional activities including an elegant high tea, an Untouchables tour (remember Eliot Ness, our favorite fed?), a visit to the Second City (if you have never been, this is a must-do!) and a Chicago architectural river cruise. Of course, there is also a stimulating series of programs on the full range of issues facing the administrative judiciary. You will be inspired and challenged by them all.

NYSALJA is delighted to announce that three Challenge Grants will be available, instead of the usual two.

  1. one recipient’s registration fee will be waived for the event,
  2. one recipient will be awarded a check for $500 from NAALJ during the conference to help defray expenses, and
  3. one recipient will be awarded a matching grant for $500 from NYSALJA during the conference, also to help defray expenses.

To participate, you must be a paid-up member in good standing who has not been awarded a grant in the past three years. Please email me at president@nysalja.org to place your name into our drawing.

I hope that all of you will avail yourselves of this potential windfall and remember that, even if you don’t win a grant, everyone who goes to Chicago will be a winner. The 2012 conference in New Orleans was fantastic and the Chicago committee has been working tirelessly to raise the bar.
